Message from Rob Gaimster

To enhance opportunities for celebrating achievements in, and to raise the profile of, the concrete industry, Concrete NZ moved to two awards events in 2022/23.

One of the events remains part of the established annual Concrete NZ conference formal dinner. This event is primarily inward facing, and appeals to Concrete NZ members across all the Sector Groups and the Learned Society.

The second, new awards event is outwards facing, appealing to clients and stakeholders not directly involved in the concrete industry, as well as Concrete NZ members. The inaugural Concrete Industry Awards event took place in March 2023 at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland.

The introduction of the new awards framework saw the Learned Society’s Concrete Awards, Concrete3 Sustainability Awards and Readymix Awards discontinued.

The revised awards framework does, however, acknowledge and respect the historical awards.

  • Honorary Life Member
  • Outstanding Contribution
  • Producer - Extra Distance*
  • Producer - Technical Excellence*
  • Plant Audit Scheme
  • Health & Safety Achievement*
  • Carbon Reduction*
  • Inclusion & Diversity*
  • Concrete Industry Apprentice of the Year
  • Learned Society (Student) Concrete Prizes
  • Concrete Canoe Race Winner
  • Best Conference Trade Exhibit
  • Sandy Cormack Best Paper

Last year’s conference at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua saw the inaugural set of Conference Awards presented. After an extended break due to pandemic disruption the awards evening (along with the conference itself) was a huge success.

Overseen by maverick entertainer extraordinaire Jackie Clarke, the ceremony acknowledged recipients for their contribution to industry as well as specific projects and initiatives. The dedicated focus on Concrete NZ members’ accomplishments was well received and greatly appreciated.

Download the awards brochure for an outline of the 2023 Concrete NZ Conference awards that will be presented during the conference formal dinner on 29 September at Claudelands in Hamilton. As indicated above [*], the entry form for five of the awards is included in the brochure.

I look forward to reviewing all the entries received by Concrete NZ, as well as joining you to celebrate the outstanding individuals, projects and initiatives that make the concrete industry so unique and rewarding to be a part of.
