Golf at Miramar Golf Club

Miramar Golf Club has been at the present site on the Miramar Peninsula since August 1908 and has become a championship golf course close to Wellington City.

The course was re-designed by the renowned Australian Graham Marsh and offers a tough test of golf with a New Zealand slope rating of 124.  A Par 70 with 102 pot bunkers rewards the straight hitter while still having to maintain considerable length.

Miramar Golf Club over the years has held the New Zealand Open and Amateur events in both Men and Ladies and recently held the North Island Under 19 tournament.  Miramar Golf Club is next to Wellington airport and is a great stopping place for either golf or conferences. The club house has three bars and a cafe open seven days all with panoramic views over the course.  Mirimar is a soft spike course.

Site Visit to Wellington International Airport multi-storied carpark currently under construction

Opus International Consultants (Opus) has recently designed a new 8 storey car parking building for Wellington International Airport.  The design utilises a concrete moment frame with supplemental hysteric dampers in the form of buckling restrained braces to achieve reliable performance for the frame in a high seismic region mitigating some of the observed issues with the behaviour of 1980s concrete frame buildings from Christchurch.

It was considered early in the design concept phase that precast concrete construction would provide the most robust and maintenance free solution and working in a team approach with early contract involvement from Fletcher Construction Company Ltd a construction methodology was developed minimising the components with 22 tonne double cruciform construction that worked for the tight site constraints and provided the most cost effective construction solution considering speed of erection, quality of the concrete finish, and minimising site works compared to in-situ construction.

The significant size and undertaking of this project in precast concrete construction has not been undertaken in Wellington since the mid-1990s with the construction of Westpac Stadium by Fletcher Construction. This is your opportunity to see first-hand the construction project and talk with the engineers and site managers involved.

Hosted by Fletcher Construction and Opus International Consultants Ltd this site visit is complimentary but is limited to a maximum of 53 delegates on a first in, first serve basis.  Please ensure you wear covered shoes and bring your own hard hat, safety glasses, and high viz jacket if at all possible (our hosts will have some safety equipment but not enough for everyone on the tour).

Cost:  FREE (limited to 53 people, first in first served)
